This half term we have lots of fun learning planned out and we love to see any learning linked to this at home too!
This half term we are focusing on the book 'The Bog Baby' and 'The Woolly Mammoth.' Building on our learning we will look at how to use subordinating conjunctions such as 'because' and 'when' and different types of sentences. We will keep practising our handwriting and the SPAG features we already know too!
Our 'Author of the Term' is Jill Murphy.
Children still needing to access phonics will attend daily phonics groups based on their assessments. Children who have come off the phonics programme will now focus more on fluency and different comprehension style questions. In Shared reading we are looking at a 'Squash and a Squeeze.'
In Maths, we are continuing to work on addition and subtraction. We will be adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers (including crossing the tens boundary) using base ten materials and blank number lines. Once more secure with this, we will be solving number problems. Toward the end of the half term, we will move onto multiplication and division beginning with making equal groups.
With Mrs Grimster we are focusing on Time - o'clock, half past, quarter to and from and lengths of time.
Topic – Geography Focus
This half term we are learning all about the 7 continents and 5 oceans. We will be looking at naming and placing them, how the equator affects the temperature and comparing the UK to a cold climate country.
This half term we are learning about 'Jesus' including how he healed people and other miracles he performed. We will look at how these stories reveal Jesus as the son of God. We will finish the half term by looking at Church and Charities and how they reflect Jesus' teaching.
In Science this half term, we are learning about 'Materials'. This includes looking at what materials different objects are made from, which materials are best for certain objects and investigating materials (e.g. How well do different materials bounce? Can solid objects change shape? Which fabric is the stretchiest?).
In Art we will be looking at the artist 'David Hockney' and the technique of collaging.
In PE, we are working with First Footers for a dance performance and 'Linking' in Gymnastics.
In Music this half term, we will be learning some new songs and inventing a musical story.
This half term, we will be learning what is meant by 'coding' and creating our own algorithms.
Hola! We will be learning about animals names, birthdays and numbers and months of the year.
Within Heartsmart, we will be looking at how 'Too much selfie isn't healthy!'
